About
Ed Janzen’s practice utilizes digital media, drawing performance, installation, printmaking, and sound. He holds a BFA in Visual Art, and a Computer Science degree from the University of Windsor.
His video-based Ambient Walk performances have taken place in Canada, US, Cuba, Portugal, Spain, and Mexico.
He has had solo exhibitions at Art Gallery of Windsor (ON), PAVED Art (SK), Artcite Inc (Windsor ON), Leamington Arts Centre (ON), Common Ground (ON), Artspeak Gallery (Windsor ON), and Hangman Gallery (Toronto). Selected group exhibitions include Nuit Blanche Toronto, Thames Gallery (Chatham ON), Gallery Project (Ann Arbor MI), CAID (Detroit), Gallery Lambton (Sarnia ON), and Hamilton Artists Inc (ON). His intaglio prints are in the collections of the Essex County Civic and Education Centre, and Windsor Family Credit Union.
Janzen’s experimental videos have screened at 7 Media City Film festivals (Windsor ON), Festival International Du Film Sur L'Art (Montreal), Sphere (Kolkota, India), Kassel Dokfest (Germany), Antimatter (Victoria, BC), Onion City (Chicago), Australian Film Festival (Melbourne), and Basement Media Fest (Brooklyn/Boston). A collection of his videos are distributed by Canadian Film Makers Distribution Center, Toronto.
He was co-founder of Scratch 'n Sniff, a writers and artists collective in Windsor/Essex County that organized readings and created a series of art assemblages and chapbooks between 1993 and 1998. He was co-founder and participating artist for two fire sculpture artist collectives: Control Burn, Windsor, producers of fire sculpture exhibitions annually from 2002-2011, and the IgniteArt Collective, organizers of a fire sculpture exhibition in Sioux Lookout ON, 2017. He is a musician who performs solo and with two roots-influenced bands, Dead Waits, and The Unscene.
Since 2020 he has collaborated with Collette Broeders, as Janzen+Broeders, in performance drawings, video and installation.
